Last year I made the decision that I needed help to lose weight. It was a battle I had fought for my entire life and that I was slowly losing. I had, had a major mental breakdown that led to a break through in some childhood trauma and that had led me to finally look at myself and realize I needed to change or else I wasn't going to be there for my kids for much longer. I have 5 kids from 21 to 4 years old. The oldest and youngest are both high dependency special needs, so me being fit, health and strong is really important.

From my very first phone call Auckland surgical associates was absolutely amazing. Friendly, helpful and welcoming. They made absolutely everything easy and stress free, explaining everything in ways I could easy understand. Dr Suheelan, Maddie and the rest of the team have been so helpful with any questions that I have had. Both pre and post operation. Txts and calls answered and replied to really promptly.

I was 118kg when I first visited the clinic pre surgery, my current weight 9 months later is 77kg. I have achieved a level of fitness that I would have never believed possible I am now down to 9% body fat. The surgery is not a magic bullet, you have to put the work in, but boy oh boy is it worth it! I cannot recommend these guys enough.

Life-changing doesn't even begin to describe it. This operation hasn't just changed my life - it's transformed every part of who I am. I'm happier, healthier, and fitter. I can walk, I can run, and I can do things I never thought were possible.

When I look back at old photos, I barely recognise the person I used to be. I feel so much happier, more confident, and more like myself than ever before. It's hard to even put that feeling into words.

It hasn't been easy - it takes hard work and commitment. It's a journey. But it is completely worth it. If you stay disciplined, follow the guidance of your dietitian and doctor, and trust the process, your life can change in ways you never imagined.

There are so many things I can now do: I can cross my legs, I can kneel and crouch when gardening, I can run through the park, bike ride by the sea and can skip down the front steps. There are also the things that I don't do now: I don't grunt when I get down to the floor, I don't need an extender belt on the plane, I don't see myself in a shop window and think Dear God, you are fat. I see myself and, if I think anything at all, I think, I am ordinary, I am normal, I am like other people.

I started at 160kg and now weigh 97kg. At one point I got down to 92kg but my wife said I was too skinny! I was suffering from chronic sleep apnoea and cellulitis, was heavily dependent on Tramadol for pain relief and not coping with life in general. As my weight declined all of these reduced or went away - including the reliance on pain killers.

I'm 34 years old, single and for most of my life I've been overweight. I had tried various diets, you name it - I've tried it! I have lost 22kgs, feel great, have more confidence in myself, have heaps of energy and most of all I am happy with myself for the first time in a long while.

This has changed my life. I wish I had known about this operation 10 years ago as it has been one of the greatest things ever to happen to me. I am a new person. It has ultimately changed my life for the better, both physically and mentally. Within 5 months of having this procedure done I finally got to swim with my kids at Christmas, feeling enough growth in my self-confidence to wear my togs.
