Aftercare Support Groups
Ongoing care and community after weight loss surgery
Weight loss surgery is a life-changing decision — and the journey doesn't end in the operating room. Our support groups are designed to help you navigate life after surgery with confidence, encouragement, and a community that understands.
Run as part of a comprehensive 5-year follow-up programme, our monthly support groups bring together patients at every stage of their post-surgery journey. Whether you had your procedure last month or last year, you are always welcome.
Meeting schedule
We hold two sessions each month — one virtual and one in-person — so you can attend whichever suits you best.
Virtual Session
First Wednesday of each month
6:30 PM – 8:00 PM
Held via Zoom — join from anywhere in New Zealand
In-Person Session
Last Wednesday of each month
6:30 PM – 8:00 PM
Unit 14/326 Sunset Road, Windsor Park, Auckland 0632

What to expect
A problem shared is a problem halved.
Our support groups follow a semi-structured format, facilitated by Amanda, our psychologist. Each session is a safe, welcoming space where you can share your experiences, ask questions, and hear from others who are on the same journey.
Sessions typically include:
- Celebrating progress — acknowledging milestones and wins, big and small
- Peer support — hearing from others who understand the challenges and triumphs of life after surgery
- Open discussion — a chance to ask questions, raise concerns, and share tips
- Normalising the journey — understanding that ups and downs are a natural part of the process
Every participant contributes to the group — your experience and insights help others, just as theirs will help you.
How to join
Support groups are available to all Auckland Surgical Associates bariatric surgery patients and commence after your procedure. You can also request to be placed on the pre-surgery list so you are ready to join as soon as you recover.
